Could It Be the Fuel Pump?
Continuing another post from last week, I reported my '01 Discovery stalled after 'hesitating' several times, and is (still) unable to start. I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, no love. A friend who is a service writer for Land Rover suggested the fuel pump, as this is a common failure. I replaced the relay and checked the fuse, still no change. Upon cranking for a few seconds, I thought I smelled gas....
Here's the question(s) - how does one check the fuel pump is in fact pumping? Does the fuel odor indicate it is?
Next on the list is spark at the plugs. They're relatively new - just 4 years (or so) and about 30k miles, if that.
Any ideas?

There is a Schrader valve on driver side under upper intake accessible at the firewall.
throw a large piece of cardboard on motor, crawl on belly down/headfirst, put your hand between firewall and intake, and you will feel it.
You can hook up and fuel pressure tester or depress the valve to check for pressure.

Just curious, do you smell gas inside of the truck? Or is it stronger in the engine compartment? If inside, it might be worth a crawl under the truck after the fuel system has been pressurized and see if there is gas on the outside of the tank, assuming you haven't cut your carpet already to get to the pump.
I had that issue once and there was a spontaneous crack or tiny hole on the top of the fuel pump housing. I put JB Weld and a lucky quarter over problem... it lasted a few months before I had to ungrip my wallet and buy a new pump. When it was leaking, it would take a turn or two longer than usual to start up.
I've had it leak from the front, too, under the intake, because injector o rings were bad.
All gas leaks are alarming. When mine leaked in the back there was a lake of gas sitting in top of the tank. That's a little spooky.
I've had a lot of problems. :/ Abran was always there to keep me on track
. Your pressure reading will tell the tale.
