Default Couple questions about 03 D2 roof rails and flex plat/ring gear

Alright so is it possible to swap over the thicker roof rails from a 2004 to a 2003? What would the job entail?

Also would the flex plate and gear ring from a 2003 WITHOUT the CDL be compatible with a 2004 cdl equipped transfer case? In other words if I wanted to swap over the engine and lockable transfer case from my 2004 into a 2003 that does not have the cdl, would it work?

Believe the roof rails utilize the same holes...but someone else might know for sure. You will have to drop the headliner to access bolts.

The transfer case mounts to the transmission, has nothing to do with flex plate or flywheel. Transmissons are the same in the 03/04, so changing transfer cases is possible.

Although, l did use the flywheel off the 04 motor that got installed in our 03. Used 03's flex plate, looked in better shape. No issues, so far...but the days not over yet...lol.

I can confirm that it is a simple swap. You have to drop the headliner and then they will match up. Make sure to seal the holes/bolts with some sealant. Took me about 15 extra minutes when I replaced the headliner.

Yes, I swapped a 2004 transfer case into my 2002. The flex plate and ring gear are between the transmission and the engine and have no bearing on the CDL. They are pretty much the same between all model years.

The CDL parts are on the front housing of the transfer case. The only differences between the 03 and 04 are the front housing of the transfer case and the shift linkage. Pull those from your 2004 and put them on your 03 and you will have the CDL. It's not an easy job, but it's worth it.
