Interesting read..

CollieRover, did you have to have your ECU remapped or did you use the same MAF?

Mine is an ‘03 so I did not change MAF. I think you’d be fine with a 4.0 upgraded block/heads, unless you feel the extra HP would be money well spent. You could ask Turner how much more the 4.6 puts out. The torque is more important than the HP on these boats anyway.

Curiouser and Curiouser..... why's that?
I just had a colleague tell me that I'm the strangest girl he's ever known haha.. He said 'you've had nothing but problems with that Rover since you bought it and you want to put a new engine in it??!??'
I told him it was a love/hate relationship. All the way.

Boring the 4.0 out to a 4.6 combined with the old out of tolerance tooling toward the end of the production run is what led to the block being thin walled and prone to cracking. Add heat and cooling expansion contraction cycles over the lifetime and the Discovery 4.6 was pretty much doomed after they stopped paying attention to quality control. That is why some who want a 4.6 choose to rebuild one from a P38. Better tooling and more quality control between 98 and 02.

Years.
and I'm an 'engineer'.. but a different type that inwardly cringes when someone tells me that gravel makes a great driveway because it hides oil leaks.
This mechanical stuff is greek to me but I am sloooooooowly learning...
