Default Crank pulley washer

Hey guys,
Been awhile... The Disco is now back on the road after a new transfer case, oil pump and associated parts. Everything is great with the exception of the crank pulley washer just dangling. Could someone tell me which way it faces? Mine could be backwards as the raised edges are facing the engine. Also, what purpose does the washer serve?

are you talking about the washer that sits behind the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer/crank shaft pully in place?

I don't recall there being a ridge on the crankshaft bolt spacer (it's a little thick to be just a measly washer). If that spacer is loose then the pulley is also loose.

Are you talking about that sensor on the timing cover? I think a picture would help.

that's what I was trying to find out; sound like the crank bolt is not tightened all the way. It may be hydrolock, you may want to pull that bolt out and blow air into the whole in the end of the crank and re-install the bolt, you could have coolant in there which will not compress and stop the bolt from thightening all the way.

My bad guys... My description was a total fail. I'm referring to the large dinner plate shaped washer behind the crank pulley (gold in color) that sits between the pulley and the timing cover. It's possible I put it on backwards and is just dangling in there. I was hoping to get clarification what direction it faces. Raised edges facing the pulley? or raised edges facing the timing cover?- how it currently is now. Also, what is the purpose of this part?

There is no washer between the cover and the pulley. You might want to post a picture of what you're dealing with.

I just checked the junk engine in my garage. The saucer shaped disk behind the balancer has the flat side facing the balancer, and the "lips" pointed toward the engine.

I guess my engine was built on a Friday, I didn't have a saucer shaped washer, that or it was stuck on the pulley and didn't notice it when I did the timing cover gasket.
