Default Crankcase hose / oil separator

Bought a new hose and oil separator. Removed hose, and the old oil separator is jammed in place really tight. Figured I'd ask for some advice before doing something stupid and breaking it off in the sleeve. First, should it be this tight? I don't know if it's ever been removed. Second question, does the sleeve it's installed in remove from the cover to enable oil separator removal? I didn't see anything regarding this maintenance in the Rave manual.

Any help appreciated.

The metal sleeve in the valve cover does not come out of the cover. When I changed mine the other year (which probably had never been replaced) it snapped in two. I had to remove the piece still lodged in the sleeve with a bent piece of mechanics wire, as it had broken with nothing to grab with needle nose pliers.

You might consider pouring some motor oil into that sleeve, to help lubricate the separator/sleeve contact area to help on removal.

You can also use carb cleaner sprayed into the sleeve t break up the sludge that is holding the oil separator in place.
