Crankcase oil pan leak

Question Crankcase oil pan leak

I just finished putting silicone on my oil pan, im just curios, why didnt range rover put any gasket in their oil pans? any thoughts?

They did put gaskets on the oil pan from the factory, some mechanics just don't use them when removing a pan.

i took off mine and i dont see any gasket, its the first time that it was opened

on the gems motors, its just a rtv seal, when they went to bosch, they used a rubber gasket. both leaked pretty regularly, as yours will too if you used silicone to seal it

exactly, why dont rr make a special gasket for that? or ask a japanese manufacturer to make for them lol!

as you might have noticed, the pan isnt made to the tightest tolerances, its cheaper and easier to just use a sealant, plus, if done correctly, will generaly hold up for a good long time. and cmon, its a step up from cork.
