Default Crankshaft Pulley Bolt 15/16 or metric? Removal and refit methods?

Today I learned that removing a crankshaft pulley is a challenge. Bosch V8 motor here. Replacing a broken front cover on my 2003.

I've read a lot about this and the only mention of a bolt size is 15/16 - is that right, or is it a metric size like 23 or 24mm? I know it's larger than 7/8, 19mm and smaller than 1-1/16"

It's a regular right-hand thread, correct? To loosen it, the wrench will be turning toward the driver's side while I'm facing the engine, right?

I think I'll remove the oil pan and use a wood block to remove it, unless it's safe to remove it with an impact wrench, but if I do that, do I need to hold the pulley in place, or can I just use the gun?

When putting the pulley back on, I imagine it'll take quite a bit of force to get it to 200 lb-ft with a 2-foot bar, but that's what I'm planning to do, unless I can use an impact wrench again although I'm worried it won't be torqued to the RAVE specification.

Do I need to apply loctite when reinstalling this pulley?

Thanks everyone - hoping to get the Discovery running again sometime soon.

By the way, do you use new bolts for the water pump, oil pump, oil pan or any other parts involved or just reuse them? The manual says a lot about discarding bolts...

Sorry, I should have clarified that I have the V8 model. I think it’s 200 lb-ft that it’s set to and needs to be set back at 200 lb-ft again. I believe the socket size is 15/16 (or metric near equivalent, 23/24mm) from what I’ve read. I really appreciate it, though.

Yes you are correct V8 is 200 ft/lbs, 24mm socket should be good too

Thank you, I just remembered that I should have clarified again that it’s the Bosch engine since I’m not sure if there are differences here.

I think there was some helpful information in that video although I really wish the rave manual had bolt size information. I’m never sure if I should be using a metric size or not. I’ll have to buy a socket since I don’t have these sizes. You think 24mm is a better fit than 15/16?

24mm is a bit loose, 15/16 fits better. Remember it's British and they used the imperial system before switching to metric.

Resting a breaker bar against the frame and bumping the starter works to loosen it. Make yourself a tool to hold the crank for tightening. The small bolts are M8x1.25

Wouldn't that be tightening it?

I keep this chart around for checking if a metric size is better for things. You can see if 15/16 fits that 24mm is too big.

Breaker bar on frame, something in the flexplate to keep it from moving, or block of wood up inside the block to hold the crank = all work

Sandman 614, I like your home made tool, do you by any chance have a drawing of it with measurement, you can post
