Default Crap- EMERGENCY: Won't Start and am late

Hey guys, I am writing to you in dire circumstances.

My 2004 Rover won't start, and I have to be at a funeral, which requires that I leave in the next 20 minutes.

I drove it to breakfast two hours ago, and it was fine. All electronics work- I really think it's NOT the battery, but as soon as I post this, I'll be hooking up the charger nonetheless.

When I turn the key, everything comes on like normal. But when I attempt to start it, nothing happens, except for a loud click from below the engine- which I'm guessing is the solenoid.

Has my starter gone bad?

Is there an emergency trick I can use to start it? My close friend lost her father, and I really want to go. Can I ground the two posts on the solenoid like I could on my old tractor?

Thanks brothers,

Pat

try tapping the starter gently with a hammer, sometimes the bendix gets jammed

Chris, I've got a creeper down and a hammer all ready- I'm trying to locate the starter- can you tell me about where it is under there? I can usually spot them...

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

you could try shorting the terminals on the starter to see if it will kick over as this will bypass everything else, just another thought

While you are there check the security of the terminal wiring connections too.

Battery terminals look shiney, and the wires are tight- would the soleniod still click if it wasn't getting power? THANK SO MUCH for the help guys! Not sure if I'll make it in time, but I guess I gotta fix it eventually.

I know you're in a hurry but you need to verify it's not the battery first...maybe borrow a battery from a neighbor's car if you dont have a spare one

also, some battery chargers have a 50amp 'start mode' to jump your vehicle

Nite Train, I love your avatar and signature.

Thank God, I have a friend going to the same funeral who is about to stop and pick me up- I'll try to jump it from my wife's Rover when she gets home tonight.

Thanks so much, guys!

Pat

thanks, glad to hear you got a ride. If your battery is really dead a jump might not work..you might have to put her battery in your rover to verify that is the problem.
