Crazy new temps. Need help
My truck has always been very temp stable running 180hwy 199 max when sitting in traffic.
I decided to take it on an 8 hour trip for the holidays. All was going great running low 180s down the road but pulled off the hwy for gas and had to stop at the end of the off ramp for a light. Temp started going up rapidly and hit 205 setting off the ultra gauge alarm.
I tossed it in neutral and reved it to 1500 rpm and temp went back down to 185 within 15 seconds.
This behavior continued the rest of the trip any time I sat at idle???

Coolant level good ? Mine does the same thing after a long hi-way run, stop on a ramp and my temp hits 199 - 201 as soon as I move or site for a minute or too it drops to normal. Around town that rarely happens, I have not been able to figure it out, but my coolant level is stable so I just keep an eye on things.

You were at highway speeds, exited & stopped. Not unsual for temps to climb after pulling off a freeway & sitting at a light. As long as the temps went down (as they did) I wouldn’t worry and 205F isn’t anything to worry about. It’s the 210F & up without dropping that you have to worry about.
