Default Cruise Control

Hey all. Just got back from my first road trip with my 02 disco. MPG was surprisingly good at about 18. Two things came up. First was an SRS light came on but went away after a few days. Also my cruise control doesnt work. Anybody know the most likely cause / place to look?

It could be a fuse but I would look under the hood there is a good chance that the rubber vacuum lines are cracked and wroughted.

It has been my experience that CC on rovers is flaky to say the least. At one point, mine would not work if the lights were on. Over the last six months I have replaced all my vacuum hoses and adjusted the gap on the throttle body for the CC. It is much smoother now and operates consistently.

I've replaced brake switches, cruise control switch, pumps, hoses, relay on passenger side, and I have checked the steering wheel buttons. It still doesn't work lol.

Mine was a cracked vacuum line. I notice that it's very slow to actually start applying throttle to maintain speed. R they all that way? I drive to 70mph, hit the button on the steering wheel, and about 10 seconds later the cruise control finally starts maintaining speed. Or maybe taking some slack out of the CC throttle cable on the throttle body?

My cruise control was intermittently working. Sometimes when I turned on the car it would work, others it wouldn't. Also, sometimes the lights would mess with it.

It was a wiring issue. When I replaced my stock stereo with an aftermarket Pioneer and did all the wiring myself, include proper grounding, the cruise control issue went away. So I'm assuming a bad ground was throwing it off.

There are a few things to check.

1) The actual vacuum device that connects to the throttle cable. Take the hose off of it. Push it all the way in - toward where the hose was attached.
With the other hand - put a finger on the nipple where the hose went. Now let it go and see if the vacuum will hold against the spring. That will certify that the vacuum can pull the diaphragm and that the throttle will pull in and accelerate.

2) There is a vacuum switch on the brake pedal. That has to be in good order. Brake off - vacuum switch conducts vacuum. Brake on - the vacuum switch lets air in and vents the vacuum.

3) Yes there is a fuse.

4) Cruise control switch probably OK.

5) Hoses just rot at the ends and leak vacuum. Just replace all the vac hoses. You may need to replace the hoses to the vac switch on the brake pedal too in the cabin.

6) Oh and yes.. There is a vacuum pump too! If that electric Vacuum pump is frozen, you are not going to get cruise.

My opinion - this is a solid cruise control.

D2's don't use a vacuum brake switch. That's on a D1, D2's only have a vacuum line from the pump to diaphragm vs the D1 which has a vacuum line go from the pump, it hits a T and goes to the diaphragm then to the brake switch. The D2 brake switch is just an electrical switch for the cruise control/brake lights.
