Since getting my 03 Disco I wondered what the funny symbol meant on the cruise control symbol, but now I understand. I believe it is the international symbol for a highway. Here in South Africa the signs along the highway indicating which one you are on or which on you are exiting to has the same symbol of a bridge over a road.
