Cyclic chirping sound from drivetrain
I need some help diagnosing the source of this noise. Cyclic chirping from drive train, sounds like a sparrow, but is fairly quiet.
chirpchripchirpchirp
Observations:
1. Increases with vehicle speed, not engine speed, no noise at idle
2. Very quiet, only audible with windows down, between 5 - 25 mph
3. Front prop shaft is the grease-able type (I assume PO replaced it)
4. Both prop shafts have been greased twice since January, including the 'slave grease nipple' (ha!) on the front shaft. I used a ton of grease.
Wheel bearing? Transfer case bearings? Diff bearings? Transmission output bearing? Prop shaft u-joints? Where do I even start?
To do:
1. Get under car and check for play in prop shafts
2. Re-grease prop shafts and re-check for noise
3. Jack up wheels and check for wheel play
I don't have the budget to replace all the wheel bearings and front prop shaft at once.
Thanks for any troubleshooting advice.

Drive shaft going bad. Like said, u-joint or centering ball. If it fails it can knock a hole in the transmission case. $$$$. Rebuild yourself, or take to driveline shop, or buy replacement (OEM or aftermarket, typically aftermarket better bang for the buck). Test for u-joint, listen for a clunk when placing into drive from neutral back to neutral to reverse. A worn sloppy u-joint will clunk between opposite directions.

100%! And at least you know L8 will stand behind the sale.
