Default d1 driver's seat replacement

Hello,

I am replacing the front driver's seat. I want to know what are my options. I also have some questions?

1. Does the series II fit on the series I ?
2. Do the range rover seat fit?
3. Can I keep the original dI seat frame and use other land rover seat covers?

Please advice with any possible option, Including modification of the D1 frame.

Thanks,
George

You can use the seat from a DII with some modification.
I would imagine the seat from a P-38 RR would also work with some mod's.
The easiest thing to do is get another DI seat or have your's recovered.

I was thinking the same thing. The best is a DI seat but most are very bad shape. I was also thinking of a oem leather seat covers from the stealer. If any one has actually done a seat mod, can you guys let me know,

George

why don't you look at covers on atlantic british or another parts website where you know they will be a correct fit and not some wal mart generic fit. might save you some money.

Thanks for the tip! I checked with AB and do not carry them. I also check with other popular disco sites and they do not carry. The dealer price for the driver's front seat is around 600.00 from my local dealer.

If you are looking for the seat look here...
www.autosportsunlimited.com
www.roverlandparts.com

If you want seat covers then go to www.roversnorth.com and get the water proof ones or e-bay.

I have installed D2 seats in my D1. It takes a lot of work and someone with cutting and welding skills but it is doable. The D1 seat tracks attach to raised mounts that are attached to the body. The D2 seat tracks have the raised mounts attached to the actual seat so the seat assembly just bolts to the body. Here's where the fun begins. The D1 mounts have to be cut away so that the four mounting locations sit flush. On the rear inside you actually just cut a slit and it will slide in that slit to hold it. I know, it doesn't make any sense without seeing it. You then bolt it on. Some people might shy away from this due to the curiousity of stablity for this in a crash situation but mine have held up perfectly fine.

Oh yeah, then the wiring. The harnesses need to be spliced to coincide with the seat switch. As you can see it does take some skillful work and more than enough curse words but it is doable. I needed to replace seats anyway and liked the D2 piping and armrests most of all so I went for it and love it. The seat quality is much better too.

I also recently did the mod to make the seat track go further back and it works great. I don't have the link but its easy to find with a search.

On a side note...I changed vehicles and needed to transfer my seats to the newer ones and found that I like having the rear seats out. I never use the rear seats and it has a lot more usable storage space without them.
