and D1s did not have the overheating issues that D2s can have. my '96 stayed nice and cool even in the summer with the AirCon going.

D1s had old school thermostats right up front on the top of the motor and were easy to get to and change out when needed.
good to know

94-95 D1 with the 14CUX did have several advantages vs earlier 90-94 RRC 14CUX based vehicles. #1 was the serpentine belt vs individual belts, 14CUX was mounted up higher inside the vehicle vs a RRC which was mounted under the passenger seat, then they had the ignition amplifier remotely mounted which helped keep it cooler and prevented amplifier issues from it getting to hot, and the 14CUX in the 94-95 D1 had the last firmware I know of that LR put into a 14CUX OBD1 system. 96 brought the GEMS setup so it could be OBD2 compliant, and yep the dizzy went away and knock sensors, CPS, and CKPS sensors were introduced to the LR V8. 87-04 LR's are still my most favorite LR's to work on.

thanks best

So are the mpg roughly the same as the d2 ? I’m assuming lr didn’t call for premium on the d1

94-95 must have super unleaded/octane booster as it doesn't have any knock sensors so it could ping with lower octane fuel. 96-99 D1 can get away with 87 as you have knock sensors just like a D2.

You can tinker with it, but it has a vacuum advance (if it works) lol

My 95 is setup at 9 BTDC currently and I switched to 4 hole injectors. It tossed a 34/36 fault while just driving around for the day (never noticed any pinging or power issues) so I'm going to go back to 6 BTDC and see if the issue goes away. Worse case scenario = the 4 hole priced to good to be true injectors are crap, and if that's the case I'll go to a Junk Yard and grab some OEM originals from a couple Volvo's.

anecdotal, i know, but my '96 had over 240,000 miles on the original head gaskets when i sold it. even over heated it once and never had head gasket issues.

All LR V8's can have HG issues, but the D1 had a better cooling system setup IMHO vs the D2.
