Default D2 airbags deployed in accident?

I was at the wrecking yard last week and there was D2 there that had been in an accident, front end collision. Hit so hard the front trailing arm was bent. Airbags did not go off. I realized standing there looking at it that I have never seen a D2 in the wrecking yard with airbags deployed. My daughter totaled an Acura with hers by hitting it in the back, her bags did not go off. I seem to recall a recent forum member rolled their D2 in to a ditch, don't recall seeing or hearing that his bags went off.

I thought I would ask the forum members if they have ever seen one with bags deployed?

I have not seen one in a yard damaged enough. A search found one accident here on the forums where bags went off and 2 crash test videos, one where the bag went off, one where they said a fault prevented the bag from going off. No pun intended but maybe they are hit and miss. All the other crash photos I saw I either could not tell or they did not go off.

Well, I had a 45mph head on versus a Tercel making an illegal left turn in front of me in my 96 D1 and both bags deployed. Not fun! No frame damage whatsoever. Tough trucks!

Well a casual perusal of Copart and all the rigs with heavy front end damage show zero deployed bags……my advice would be to crash softly…….

I rolled a 97 D1 back in early 2000 (my first LR & D1). She rolled 3-4 times and then went head on into a massive Cedar tree. Neither air bag deployed and I walked away without a single scratch.

I have seen one D2 in the junk yard with blown air bags and a destroyed front end. However 99% of the time = all salvage yard D1/D2's = no popped air bags.

I know in my wreck I lost all power after the first complete roll and certainly after she hit the tree.

Yeah, this is my observations looking at Copart photos and lots of trucks in the yards. I don't know how sensitive the sensors are, or the power situation, but the one I recently saw I sure would have wanted the bags to deploy.

FWIW the only crash sensor in a DII is the deceleration sensor in the DCU, mounted under the center console.

Air bags are no joke, they should be called explosion bags. They can break your nose, jaw, collar bone; you don't want them going off unnecessarily.

Man Land Rover certainly skimped on the engineering and quality control on these things; underpowered, undercooled, non-functioning airbags, and poor materials selection. Why do I love this stupid thing so much? Must be something wrong with my brain 🤪🤪🤪

Dang...Airbag doesn't go off till the hood is buckled and the front axle is already on its way back. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems kinda late for an airbag to go off
