Default D2 alarm triggered and emobolised

Here's where I'm at...bought a 2001 DII with a bunch of mostly cosmetics problems was working through them and now the key does not start motor this morning. Gets stuck in ignition when I tried. If I unplug battery I can remove key but does same thing if I try again. Doors do lock and unlock with key (not all of them).

Here's how I got to this point...
Key fob hadn't worked since i got truck,
I locked truck with key and tried to open back door (which didn't lock...another issue) and set off alarm.
Turned alarm off with door lock.
Locked doors again and left for night.

Now in morning opened door with key, alarm light was fast flashing, went out and truck in emobolised. Alarm light flashes rapidly for a few seconds then goes out, lock activates with key but key sticks in ignition and will not start car.

Any ideas on just getting it to run with the key?...please!!

The alarm shouldn't have anything to do with removing the key. It sounds like an interlock problem. Maybe an XYZ switch out of adjustment. Normally on a NAS D2 you have to be in park to take the key out, IIRC.

I was wondering about the key...if key is locked in ignition and only released when battery disconected you are saying this is nothing to do with alarm? Just want to be sure before I go that route. Thanks

i do not believe the alarm would keep you from removing the key, but if your transmission is not reading park it will keep you from removing the key, is what he trying to tell you

I was waiting for Landlover (the resident spelling police) to bust his chops, but you beat her to it!
