Default D2 coolant bleed question

I was just bleeding the air out of my D2 and couldn't get anything to come out of the bleed screw before I started the engine. Everything else went like clockwork as I followed the sticky. Why didn't anything come out? Should I have left it off until after I started the engine? Thanks for any help!

Did you take the tank out of the clips and raise it up on the battery cover?

Nope, I just followed spikes sticky. I wasn't having any problems but my coolant ran a little low so I thought I would be better safe than sorry.

Put bleed screw back on before starting engine - i forgot once - HUGE MESS! Keep filling tank slowly, it will eventually come out, I thought I was doing something wrong the first time as it wasnt coming out, just keep filling, it will.

I filled it past the high mark... I thought if I put more in it would just pour over the sides.

Open the bleed screw, pull the expansion tank off of its clips and raise it up and balance it on the edge of the battery box. This really is the best way to do it becasue if you look the expansion tank is about level with the engine and you will have trouble getting all the air out. Once you have it raised coolant should come out of the bleed screw hole. I flushed the coolant on my stepbrother's 95 taurus. They have the tank above the engine and radiator and are self bleeding, pretty easy.

Ok will do. I guess there is only one hose I should disconnect before raising said tank?

You do not need to disconnect any hoses it is made to be taken out for this purpose. Just pull it out of the clips and kind of guide the bottom hose between any obstructions. You will see what I mean.
