Default D2 Front Axle Seal Direction?

Anyone know the correct direction to install the front axle seal on a D2? After staring at mine for a while, and based on a couple of seal installs on other cars, I'm half convinced it goes one way. However, that is the reverse of the one I pulled out. I've attached two images of the choices below.

I'm fairly sure it's been apart before and I'm just wondering if the PO put one in backwards (and maybe that's one reason it was leaking in the first place). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I've called around to a few suppliers and I can't seem to find anyone that knows the answer to this.

Surely somebody out there has had one of these apart recently. No?

Thanks Street Wolf! That's what I was thinking too. In that case, the one I pulled out was in backwards. Now I can finally get the thing off the jack stands.

Yeah, I can imagine it'd be leaking pretty well if it was put in the other way.

Changing the seals or both the seal and the hub. Really interested in how long the sealed
Front hub lasts before it starts to go.

BTW I concur with the seal going in flat side on the outboard, eg the first picture.

Best of luck,
Ed
