Alright hold on. So it is my understanding that the u-joints installed in the front driveshaft are non-greasable, so what about the shaft itself? Does the shaft have a nipple for greasing? and to be on the safe side: simply replacing all the u-joints in the shaft will increase my chances of avoiding the hold in the transfer case?

I could have searched the forum so I could copy and paste this, but that would have taken almost as much time as typing it.

The stock D2 front shaft has one grease-able joint (at the front differential) and a port to grease the slip shaft. The double cardan joints at the transfer case are not grease-able from the factory. They are within inches of the converter, and get dripped on from the evaporator drain, so they get the grease baked out, and when they fail, they break, causing the shaft to whip into the transmission.

The OEM shaft can be rebuilt with three Precision 344 grease-able joints, and Precision 617 centering ball. You then need to grease everything at every oil change. This will prevent front shaft failure and transmission damage.

Or read the "Rebuilding Propshaft" topic in the "must read" sticky.

If you haven't been greasing to slip shafts and 2 u-joints, better replace all 4 u-joints, centering ball and put 2 temporary grease fittings one in each slip shaft and then grease them all at least twice a year.
