From D2 to LR3: The Disco2Fever Story
Hello lads!
I wanted to tell you that in January, I will be selling our 2000 Disco 2. I'll be giving the wife my 2004, and I'll be buying an LR3 HSE.
This comes after several months of research. I was dead set on a Mercedes G55 AMG, but I've determined the LR3 is better suited for my needs. The $20,000 saved was only a 'very small part' of the decision, I assure you....
Anyway, I'm sure some of my Disco brethren will have something to say, and I'm anxious to hear it all. The bad.. the good... the delusional and the blindly loyal.
Aside from that, I'm confident that my '2 owner' 2000 D2 is THE BEST MAINTAINED 2000 D2 *in the world*. Sure, it's got 80,000 miles on it, but every inch of that baby has been taken care of in the way only an OCD father who has no kids and gets paid quarterly (and already has all the guns, ammo, and tactical gear he wants) can.
Therefore, I will let YOU all know first when she's gunna be going up for sale. The best part is, my "selling" plan makes as little sense as my "buying plan" did: Yep, I'll literally take a loss if I know she's going to a good home.
That's all for now, deeydz ('dudes' pronounced like a punk). I predict my wife will want an LR3 within a few months, but until then, I'll still be coming here to tell you when terrible catastrophic things happen to my beloved '04 (the fan motor is apparently bad now... noisy as heck, $400 to fix of course).
Good day, folks!

Haha, we've got a great relationship. She knows I make the money, and that vehicles are "my special thing". She wants a reliable 4x4 that gets her from A to B... and the D2 is exactly that.

I could never get an LR3. I think they lose too much character in the styling from the DI and DII's. And they seem like a haven for electronic failures. But if it floats your boat go for it.
I agree 007, and that was a huge hang up for me. I thought they looked way too "low" going down the road.
But then... I was reading this big hard cover Disco coffee table book I got earlier this year, and suddenly the beauty of the LR3 struck me. Yes, it loses a lot of character compared to the D1 and D2, just like the Series or Defender drivers would think about the D2.
I can't explain what happened, but I was suddenly able to see the LR3 in a whole new light. Not "LR3 vs. D2" at all. But "My Life" cross checked with the "LR3".
I love the personality in my D2s, and how different they are from anything else on the road. But ultimately, I discovered that's not the most important factor for me.
Funny enough, I looked at Range Rovers as well, and LR3 STILL won.

"Meh screw the Range Rovers, they are the girl vehicles of Land Rover!" says DiscoRover007 as he bucks around, kicking at empty air.
"Uh oh, someone said his 'fight' word!" says Bill O'Brien, the man whose full-time job it is to keep DiscoRover007 from smashing sneeze guards at the buffet when they run out of his favorite breakfast item.

Congrats man. I'm right there with you on the LR3, although I've loved them from day one and that will be what I move into next, but for now the wife is gunning for an LR4.
I don't get what the big deal is about these new cars that LR is rolling out with. Toyota stopped producing the FJ40 and diehard Toyota guys aren't going bonkers?? I've owned a DI and now a DII, and I love the LR3, LR4 and s*** if I had enough expendable cash money, I'd probably buy an Evoque as commuter. It's a progression, things move forward, I wish everyone would get over it.
What's that old saying? Something like "If you're not moving forward, you're dead."

If my DI gets totaled or stolen and I cant get my D-110 I'll get a V8 LR3 and covert it to springs and dump the damn air ride suspension.
