D2's getting scarce
I always check for D2's on Craigslist in cities in the midwest. Lately they are getting very hard to find. I would usually look for nice body rigs with blown HG for $500. Lately I don't see any or I see rigs with blown motors for $2,500. Does anybody know a way to determine how many are still on the road?

there was recently an '03 for sale for $10,000.00. the only thing the owner had done was throw on a two inch lift and some bigger tires. no bumpers. no armor.
after dropping the price twice over the course of about four weeks, the owner finally pulled the truck yesterday.
i expect to see it reposted soon.

i've been doing the same, checking Craigslist almost everyday. i'm seeing fewer and fewer D2's and those that do come up are usually priced pretty high.

I haven't used this and only knew about it because I am in the dealership biz. Titles are public info so there are ways to search, I just have not done it my self. So this link is the best I can do.

Scrap yards = a lot of D2’s die there, and some advertised on CL/FB Market Place vanish because the owner couldn’t get 500.00 so they took it down to the local scrap yard and got 600.00 for it. Heck some companies will come to your house & haul it away and still pay you 600.00. Then places like LKQ get a hold of it, and part it out, then they list the parts on their Ebay store & make a lot more than what they paid for it.
I’ve been saying it for years D1/D2’s prices are going to go up & KBB/NADA prices will mean nothing. It will be supply & demand at that point. You don’t ever see a decent 87-95 RRC for any less than 10k. Anything less is pretty much crap & it would take a good amount of cash to even get close (probably back up near 10k) due to interior/exterior parts being pretty hard to find these days.
When I was a kid growing up my dad had a 78 Toyota Celica GT sports coupe with the louvers on the back windows & 4 round headlights up front. He always said that car was going to be a rare little Japanese car one day. In the early 80’s you saw em all over. Now in 2019 I’ve never seen one in person on the road & even searching online for that exact model = found one picture online. My dad was right, most rusted away, were wrecked, or scraped. When he sold it he said he never wanted to pass it or see it again because he knew it’s days of being perfect were over (sold it to a college girl in 92 who couldn’t drive a stick properly at all). We never saw it again, but we did hear she trashed the clutch & traded it in on something else...
Now it’s the D1/D2’s turn! Glad I have a lot of spare parts, and a parts truck. I also have 3 near perfect D2’s that you won’t see me listing for anything less than 6k, the interior/exteriors are original, everything works, and the only issues = slightly faded roof paint. Paint is nothing vs having all the interior/exterior/mechanical/electrical bits in perfect condition!
Once the beaters are all scrapped it will be the good D1/D2’s dying from wrecks, fires, theft, and natural disasters. Then after that it will be just the collectors/enthusiast with any decent ones left.
My 02 Kalahari is 1 of 150 ever made. How many are actually on the road today? I bet not very many at all! Then my 97 XD with 250 ever made & once again just how many are actually around today?

Don't always part em out before they get crushed
Sometimes they just sit expire and parts go to waste ..
The scrap yard here had a a d2 with 80% of the parts on it and no pickers
..came back a week later to pick it .. gone .. smashed ... I explained to the guy they were getting rare he said oh well I just work here that's are policy
