Default DAMS - Discovery Acronym Management System

Our forum language is changing with the time. In the future, we may not use any words in a post, as it can be written with all acronyms.
Example: 03 D2 HSE 71k w/ ABS-TC- HDC 3 Amigo’s SOS

For standard web acronyms see the “Internet Acronym Dictionary”
http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/?lookup=A

The following is an acronym list to share with others who are learning that to “walk the walk” of the Discovery, and they also need to “talk the talk” of the Forum. We are making up new acronyms all the time, so be prepared to keep adding to the list.

Note: please let me know of any errors or omissions

HSE - Discovery model (D2) 03, 04

Wrong, HSE is a model designation on all land rovers including freelander, RRS, RR, Discovery models.

There are base models now with different models. For example Discovery 4 has XG, XS, HSE

Freelander two has S, XG, XS, HSE

Range Rover Sport has SE, HSE, SC also HSE with LUX package

Range Rover, Vogue, Vogue SE, SC, Autobiography editions. depending on country some are a package and some are more personal.

And don;t forget all the special Editions

XD RR,D1
Camel Trophy defender, freelander, DI, RRC
Rhino RR P38
Holland and Holland RR P38 AND new RR 2010 Holland and Holland edition
Linley RR p38
Safari D2
kalahari Defender South Africa
West Minister RR and D2
Versius Orange RRS 06
G4 defenders, Freelanders, Freelander2, D2,D3, RR, RRS
Autobiography Range Rovers and Sports
Fire and Ice Defenders
Trek vehicles since 1997

and most of your acronyms for systems and module names arent even close with what we use.

geez.. its a pretty good list i thought. Some pretty good thought was put into it. Maybe point out the acronyms that "arent even close" to help with the original post?

Rovin, good job, sometimes we forget that what we're saying doesnt even make sense to everyone. I said CDL to a mechanic once and he didn't have a clue i was talking about center diff lock...

Imagine a 2010 RR HSE with all the bells and whistles and all of those bells and whistles have at least two or three modules with their own acronyms.

I have a list of my training manuals that list something along the lines of fifty acronyms for modules. Thats not including the regular Periodic tables listed including NOX, CO, MO, CH,
Oh and we have wiring color schemes which differ per vehicle. Older ones use a different system then the newer ones.

There is alot there trust me.

I'm sure there is, and I totally understand where you're coming from, but I believe the OP was creating this for forum use, not actual Land Rover techs. And he called it DAMS which means its for Disco use, not RR's.

I think it was more of a informative thing rather than a technical thing. But i'll let eaglewing answer that.

Default DAMS - Discovery Acronym Management System

This is the Land Rover Discovery Forum for Discovery I and Discovery II owners and comments and lists should be focused for those people who want to know about their Discovery trucks (Not LR3 or RR or Defender). This is why I made the list of Discovery items that kept coming up in our forum. Newby’s questions of what is this were sometimes not answered. In the spirit of openness I felt this small but focused list was important to the understanding of our conversations in this forum. I am not a trained Land Rover mechanic and I am always humbled by the knowledge that others have. What makes this form great are the people and their sharing of knowledge. We solve problems together.

Love it! This is a great idea...probably would make for a great sticky in the "New Members" area so first-timers have a reference to all the Disco lingo.

................IMHO, of course

ha to most CDL is commercial drivers license! I am sure we have quite a few others that are rover specific that would mean something else to other people. I thought it was a great post. I also remember a time when I had to ask what TPS meant, so maybe it will be beneficial to someone.

Default DAMS - Discovery Acronym Management System

Thank you guys for the kind words, I feel better about this now.

I have a 98 DI which is electronic simple compared to the DII’s with many more acronyms.
This list started so that I could understand what was being talked about on the forum for both DI and DII’s. It was a good learning exercise.

If it worked for me so I decided to share it with the forum.
