Dash lights
Hi I'm looking at purchasing a 2003 discovery. The owner says these dash lights came on after they changed the battery and just need to be cleared by the dealer. Is that common or is it BS? I'm going to bring an iCarsoft scan tool to verify but it's a 1.5 hour drive so don't want to waste my time and gas. Thanks in advance.
Don't buy a disco 2 if you're afraid of dash lights.
You can get tons of lights due to a weak/dead battery.
A weak alternator will even send the transmission into limp mode.
If you have an indy tech that you enjoy giving tons of money to, the disco 2 will be his and your favorite ride.
Doesn't sound like he knows much about the Disco 2.
I usually buy up any 5-600 dollar disco 2 that appears within 2 hours from me. The reason I keep a constant supply of spares is people fall in love with the looks without researching what it takes to keep one up.
These are good rigs for those who can or want to wrench or those who have plenty of disposable income to pay others to do repairs, when (not if) they are needed.

He MIGHT be right about the SES (Service Engine Soon). I haven't seen the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) light come on due to battery issues, I would guess that one is real. The ABS/TC/Guy Driving Downhill (HDC - Hill Decent Control) is called Three Amigos. That is almost certainly real and is often a particular well known fix. I second what PickleRick said, don't go down this road without you own wrenching skill and interest in using it, OR a large check book and interest in using it.
Our 1999 disco 2 had the SRS light come on after sitting for maybe 2-3 weeks with a completely dead battery until I got around to swapping it out. I was going to get around to clearing the code but it reset itself after driving it for a couple minutes.
I can assure you the tres amigos will never go out by itself even after repairing the culprit issue.
