Exclamation Dash lights

When i turn my key to the 2 position the following lights don't come on
  • Service Engine Soon
  • abs light
  • HDC Failure
  • Traction Control

How can i tell if they are unplugged or if the light is just out? Should i have autozone check for codes? if the light is just out how do i fix it?

First off just let me say don't stress yourself out about it. The first D2 I bought (my 99) had all the lights pulled, and they still are. In all honesty I'm happy that they were, because my 04 never stops throwing lights. Needless to say I prefer driving the 99.

Moving on I would check and see if autozone is able to pull your codes, you may get lucky. If not then you'll just have to read about the different problems and how to fix them when they arise. That's what I do with my 99 and it runs perfect now.

When you do have problems and are looking for help you just have to go into great detail now when you describe them since if you can't pull the codes. If this is the case be sure and state at the beginning of those threads that you can't pull codes, because if not your first 2 or 3 answers will always be whats your codes.

If they aren't able to pull your codes then an ultra gauge may not work...I could be wrong though. Someone else should be able to answer that better than me being I don't use an ultra gauge.

On a side note consider going with some heavier gear oil than it calls for.

The UG is priceless. As for the lights, I replaced my cluster because the PO removed the three amigo LEDs off the circuits. I got a good used one on ebay for about $25. The odometer will blink unless you sync it. I have a hawkeye so no problem. You might be able find a forum member with the right equipment close who could do it for you for free. I like having all my lights work, but that's just me.

It does NOT read ABS codes though. So you will only be alerted with SES codes. Generally the Rover will chime 3 times though if your three amigos come on, even if you can't see them.

Does any code reader read ABS? such as the autozone one or is this where the new light cluster comes into play

Some code readers will. The one at AutoZone will almost most certainly not. The Hawkeye does, but it's quite expensive. There is a forum member who rents his ABS Amigo which reads the codes. That is probably the most economical way to do it.

There are others out there like here:

Still pricey though. If you are OK without the lights, I wouldn't worry about them too much. If you hear three chimes and have no SES codes, rent an ABS amigo and check them out.
