Default Dead New Battery

Hey everyone,

I replaced the battery in my 04 D2 in December after it died while it sat in my driveway running. The battery was 6 years old so figured it was that time anyways.

2 weeks later (right before New Years) I got a code on my OBD scanner that read P0300 (random/multiple misfire) and then the truck died on me and wouldn't restart for a bit. Got it started, limped it home, and then it sat.

With the winter weather and my small garage, I haven't been able to diagnose and fix the misfire yet, but since it's warming up I went out to take a look today.

As of today, seems the new battery is completely dead...had to use the key in the door to unlock.

Any ideas on what could cause a new battery to die if it's just been sitting for ~2 months? Any chance the P-code and dead battery are relalated?

Also, I'm not very experienced at all with electrical, so if anyone has recommendations of where to even begin, they would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for any/all help

Batteries in the Discovery can die in two to three weeks if not driven. If I don't drive mine for 2 weeks, I have to jump start it. My battery is 6 months old. My old batteries did the same thing.

Too many computers lots of new cars have the same issue, constant low level draw.

You'll want to stick a trickle charger on it (once you have it properly charged or replaced) to prevent that from happening. They make both plug in models and solar models if you're not near an outlet. I try and drive mine at least once a week just to prevent my battery from discharging, and its probably good to get the fluids moving around and up to temp to boil off any moisture.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

Makes sense it would be something simple and best place to start is a to keep it on a charger

Yeah, I have D2s that will sit for a year and start right up, and two that will die within a couple weeks. Haven't done any diagnosing, just use a trickle charger.
