Default Dealer replacing driveshaft

I heard a vibration while driving. Brought to dealer. Says driveshaft is shot. Will replace under certified warranty. I asked about greasable u joints. They said they wont. Said if I did, it would void the 1 yr warranty on the DS. Is this right.

Clarification: Dealer said u joints were worn. I had these replaced with greasable, and new center ball 1 yr ago.

They also found leaking front/rear dif, t-case, and left rear hub leaks. All to be fixed.

These trucks are truly a love/hate relationship. I have had this truck for 1 yr, and had to replace both front head lights to to leaks, sunroof motor, and horn switch. Thankfully all under warranty.

So a year from now, go get that new shaft rebuilt and look forward to many happy days on the trail.
By the way, what year is your D2? Rover did release some new shafts with greaseable fittings for the 04's which should fit most other D2's.

I have a 2004 SE with 60K. How will I know if I get the nes driveshaft with greasable fittings. Also, is it common for the ujoints to fail if I have them replaced only a year ago?

You will know if you have the greasable u-joints by looking at them, you will need to crawl under the truck and look for the grease fittings.
Can a u-joint fail after a year? How many miles did you drive in that year? How often were the u-joints greased? Are you greasing them yourself or are you relying on the quick lube to do it?
Just a FYI-99.9% of DII's do NOT have grease fittings on them so when one with them comes into Jiffy Lube they will NOT look for grease fittings, if they dont get greased they will fail in no time flat.
"Sealed for life" u-joints are closed to the outside world and filled with synthetic lube and will last much longer without being greased then will "normal" needs to be greased at EVERY oil change u-joints.

Drove about 10K. Greased twice (as I was told) by local shop.

They should not have failed at 10k if they were greased every 5,000 miles.
I change my oil every 5,000 miles and that is when I grease mine and I have put well over 20k on my truck myself.
After it is serviced check for fresh grease.

I took mine to a JL because I didnt have time. Theanager noted 4 grease points, but they didnt do any of them. I had to crawl under the stinking truck and point to them.

I bet if you go back and check your paper work, the rebuild did not include a new centering ball kit, which is an absolute must.

I looked over the paper work. Its says R/R, front driveshaft rebuild. When I talked to the guys before doing the work, I specified I wanted the ujoints replaced, as well as the centering ball, as DiscoMike has stated in multiple prior posts. To be honest, I never looked underneath after they did the work. I had this work done by a driveline shop that was recommended by mutiple shops in the city.

When the dealer inspected the truck. They told be that they could tell that the ds was worked on. There were greasable u joints, that failed, and the ds was painted. They did not comment on the centering ball and I didnt ask. So what do you think. Was I screwed by the driveline shop who did an incomplete job, or was a stupid not to check if the joints were greased after every oil change as I was told. At least the truck is still under warranty.
