Is there a Technical Service Bulletin or anything from GM saying something along these lines? I run Dexcool in my 99 Z71 as do many other Chevy owners I know. & this is the first I've heard of this.

I need to add this...
Land Rover says right in the DII owners manual that the engine coolant needs to be changed every 36 months or 45,000 miles, whichever is sooner.
Now you have to ask yourself why would they recommend that you change your 5 year 150,000 mile coolant way before its suggested service life?
Do you think that maybe the engineers at Land Rover knew something about Dex-Cool that we dont?

DI's came with standard green coolant and it needed to be changed every 30 months or 30,000 miles, whichever was sooner.
But that was not a long life coolant it was standard run of the mill been used for 50 years engine coolant.

Dont use Dex-Cool is my answer.

Thanks for those links. I saw some of them when I did a google search but no TSB from GM saying there were problems with it but with that said, I guess I'll be another one that will change my coolant. I guess it's not worth the risk when there are alternatives.

I wonder if some of the bad experiences are from people not using distilled water when they mix? But then again, I bet most just use the 50/50 pre-mix...

to be completely honest AutoPartsGuy, I don't think that GM would actually come right out and say that this is a bad product, do not use it. They've already had at least one class-action lawsuit that I am aware of because of it, could you imagine the trail of others to follow if they openly admitted the flaw?
I'm not sure of the outcome of the lawsuit, I just read about it while doing a Google search.

I'm going to get rid of the Dex-Cool in my D2. Which is the better coolant, the green or the gold?

Any aluminum safe coolant you want to use.
Just make sure you change it every 2 years, its cheap insurance.
If you buy it pre-mixed you will not have to worry about not mixing it right either.
I prefer Peak Global.

Yes, I understand. Do you recommend using a chemical cleaner to remove any sludged Dex-cool when you flush?

Just use clean water.
Drain, fill with water, idle with the heater on for 15 min.
Shut it off and let it cool for 15-20 min.
Drain, refill and repeat.
Keep doing this until nothing but clean water comes out.
Then fill with your favorite aluminum safe engine coolant.
