Default DI to DII axle swap

has anybody swapped an axle from a DI into a DII? If so what kind of problems did you run into?

Why?
Wont work.
The DII is wider.

my rear wheel seals appear to be developing a leak...$800 for hubs is not an option

you can narrow any axle

80% of the time a leaking hub on a DII is a bad seal not the hub.

You have a DII right? It is wider than a DI, not the other way around.
So how would you widen the axle? Not to mention that DI's have a full floating rear axle while DII's do not.

If the oil is milky then yes you have water in there. Could be from a clogged axle breather or a bad seal somewhere, pinion or hub seal.
Change the diff fluid and then remove your axle breather and make sure that it is not clogged.
My rear axle breather was clogged when I bought my truck, the diff would build pressure and cause a leak at the pinion seal.
Replaced the axle breather and all is good.

you can make an axle wider with wheel spacers..not sure if anybody makes them for rovers..but the D1 axle is just one option...for $800 I could but a ford 9" / dana 44 combo...the coil buckets and perches and the lincoln 135 amp welder Ive been wanting

those hubs at rover land are used arent they? with my luck I would be in the same situation 2 months from now..but $400 poorer

I just do not think that buying a used axle, and Jerry rigging it to fit will save you any money.
Dont forget that the DII and DI use a different ABS system, so your 3 amigos will be on all the time.
