I wouldnt try to jerry rig it..I know some very good fabricators that have built rigs much stronger than a factory rover..Im talking 42 inch tires with 500+ HP able to withstand 5,000lbs roll overs.

yeah, I would lose traction control but $400 hubs is just ridiculous ...and a 90 day warranty wouldnt help much..my hubs are starting to leak at 77K miles...any used one would probably have close to that mileage on them

This is one of the many reasons I own a DI.
Cheap to maintain and VERY reliable.

Yes, D1s have fluu floating axles at both ends. That is the main reason for the large diameter bolt pattern (5 on 6.5)

It would be nice to have D1 diffs/axles over the D2's, got to love those full floating systems.
As Spike has mentioned, buy used and save money. Also, check your vent tube from the axle tube up, may need to be replaced or repositioned to stop the water from getting in.
Make sure you do your front diff just incase you have water in it also.

mike, one of the reasons I dont want to go with a used hub is because you advised against it.

It just seems like an expensive temporary fix that depends on luck. However, If I can find somebody parting out their own DII and they are selling their hubs cheap I would give it a shot. I think I might know somebody.

btw good suggestions with the vent tube and draining the front diff too, I'll be sure to do that.

I forgot I used to have that mind set back then. They are expensive new, Rover Connection now has an aftermarket hub for about $100 less.
I have seen a number of people who have used good guaranteed hubs and been OK, bottom line, it is what ever works for you.
In my case, being on a fixed income, I would probably roll the dice and go used.

I was thinking about this while at work today, these sealed hubs very rarely leak, the bearings go bad and they go off caster, but almost never leak.
Now the axle seal, which is the seal behind the hub, the one that seals the axle from the hub assembly does go bad and leak.
If your axle breather is clogged these seals can and will leak.
Replace your axle breather and both axle seals NOT the hubs and I am betting that your leak goes away.
You can do this for under $100 and a days work in your driveway.

spike, when you say 'both axle seals' you are talking about those big O-ring gaskets that seal the end of the axle tube right ? I replaced one yesterday and plan on replacing the other one.
