I figured there were probably others who, like me, did not know that DI and DII starters are interchangeable. Early DI starters were 1.4kw. Later DI starters, and DII starters were 1.7kw. BOTH starters utilise the exact same casing and mount spacing. And the starters share the same solenoid as the VW Jetta.

 

IMO the Britishstarters.com NipponDenso rear reduction starter is the way to go if a person's stock starter can't be rebuilt.
