Hello,

I've got a 94 disco and I think there should be codes to read. I'm pretty sure there is no ODBII port. The LED under the passenger side seat does no display anything either. Is there a way to check the LED thing to make sure it actually works? Can I unplug a sensor of some sort to make it show me a code to confirm it works?

Also, am I right that there is no ODB II port?

96 was the first year of OBD II,,, I think 94 would have
OBD I on some makes I'm not sure if LR did but I have
read about the led light that lets you konw about 95
and older Discos.

Not an expert, but you chould have a check engine light that comes on when you first turn the key, and it should extinguish once it has started if there is nothing wrong. Check for the light on the dash. If it is on and there are no codes on the display, the display is bad.

What makes you think something is wrong?

 

No check engine light. Its just that my gas mileage is only 11mpg with highway and city driving. I drive very gas-conscious (RPM never goes over 2000 in city driving). A couple of things seem suspect. 1st, my engine would never "warm up" according to the temp gauge so it was probably running perpetually rich (I was getting about 10mpg then). So I replaced the thermostat and now it is a little better but still the needle only goes up 20% of the way. When I turn on the heater the needle goes up halfway for about 30seconds then comes down. The erratic needle movement makes me think something is broken.
Then I switched to 93octane and it made no difference. All fluids are new, new bosch 2+ plugs, new wires, clean air filter and T-body, seafoam intake cleaning, K&N oil filter, good quality synthetic oils. Now I'm thinking maybe some coolant temp sensor is broken or my O2 sensors need replacing. That's why I thought a code would be present. I still need to replace the fuel filter though. Also based on how the passenger side ventilation flaps don't work properly, I'm thinking maybe some vacuum issue. I'm not exactly sure what kind of vacuum leak could affect my mpg though. Any thoughts appreciated. If I could get 13-15mpg I would be very happy.

So it sounds like you run regular most of the time and just tried supreme, if that is the case, do two tanks of supreme which will give the ECU plenty of time to adapt to the higher octane, see what happens.

 

If you have ethanol in the gas,,,, well that is most of
the problem.

 

Actually I've done about 6 full tanks of shell 93. I thought I'd given the ECU plenty of time , but I guess not.

 

You mentioned 02 sensors, how many miles on the truck?

 

90K miles. I'm the 2nd owner so no idea if its been done already

 

o2 sensors will definately not hurt. If you'veowned the truck for a while, they've probably never been changed.I'm not too fimiliar with the DI's but my DII gets about 14-15 which i've read is pretty average. Also on most vehicles (including the DII) the check engine light should come on when the key isin the on position, and go outwhen the engine starts, it letsyou know that the bulb is still working.
