Default Dicovery 2 heater core fix

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...100_2398-1.jpg
Had the dreaded leaky rubber orings in my 99 disco 2 took the heater core and cut the tubes off and had them heliarced and used 5/8 heater hose to replace the tubes. Took about 4 hours to take heater core out and replace. The two shops I had talked to earlier wanted $1000 + to repair

Thanks for the tip. Mine is in the shop right now having the second new heater core installed. First one was damaged when they pulled the engine and they replaced at no charge. Unfortunately, the junior mechanic handling the operation tightned one of the hose clamps so much that the clamp went through the hose AND the heater core tube. If the second core doesn't get here Monday I may tell them to try this so I can get back on the road for the Christmas Holiday. Santa has too much crap to carry in his Avalon....

I went to my local junk yard and they had a disco2 took the heater core and cut off some tubes had my local welding shop heliarc the tubes on about and 1" long. Things you need to remove is the center console and the glove box bolts that hold dash far right under dash by glove box pull right side of dash out far enough to slide heater core out. cut off tubes about 2.5" have them welded up. Get about 12" of 5/8 Heater hose and four clamps, slip the heater core back in slide your hoses on and clamps. took about 4-5 hours.
