If you are getting spark on all 8 cylinders then it must be a injector problem.

If that were the case though, he would have a 200 fault code for each injector that was not working and he doesn't.
This will be an interesting one to figure out.

Default Got new O2's, no worky.

Replaced all 4 O2 sensors and still not running in the back 4 cylinders.
Next step will be a compression check.
Has anybody else had this problem?

I am thinking a bad cam sensor.

Default cam sensor

Where is the cam sensor located?

Spike, the cam sensor has a few functions, one of them being keeping the timing set for the fuel injection, but even when it is unplugged, the engine will still run, just not all 184 horse power of it.

So you were driving and heard a "whisp" sound and then it ran like crap? And you have spark? Have you checked the intake to see if you sucked something up, blocking the air to the back 4 cylinders?

Checked intake, looks good. Air filter is intact and in place.

Default Could this be a timing problem?

Since I don't have (and can't find) a manual for this car, I have no idea what I'm really looking at, but I can tell a few things from simple observation.

It runs on the front 4 cylinders (1234)

It backfires through the intake, sometimes enough to blow the plastic intake tube off the manifold

It has fire in all 8 holes

It runs poorly on 4 cylinders - meaning that it takes a while to rev up, and then can loose power even while pumping the accelerator.

Could this be a timing problem? I don't know which sensor runs the timing and fuel injectors.

I thought maybe the camshaft broke between 4 and 5, but was told that it was impossible to run the motor at that point.

I really don't want to tow it to the Land Rover dealer to pay them $$$$$$$ for a sensor or some tiny part.

Anybody know of a manual for this model? Haines and Chilton evidently don't have one.

Do a search for the "rave" manual, it is THE repair manual for our trucks, it is the same one the dealer uses.

The crank sensor controls spark.
The cam sensor controls injector timing BUT it cat/wont fire the injectors if it is not getting a signal from the crank sensor.

The crank sensor is VERY common to fail on a DII, in fact it is a guarantee to fail part.
