I recently had my 4.0 block top hatted by a reputable machine shop that has done many of these blocks. As I wrestled the completed block into the engine stand I noticed that the bottom left transmission bolt hole was mashed. It’s pretty obvious that this thing hit the ground at some point. I was able to tap the hole out and get the bolt in but noticed another issue. There is a mounting tab with a hole, also on the left side, near the number one cylinder that has been sawn off.
I don’t recall anything being mounted to it and can’t find anything in the parts diagrams. Do I need this or is it something cast for factory use or a carryover from an older model? Did they break it off or possibly remove it to deck the block?
