You are very lucky. So how did the engine run 6 quarts overfilled? Also did you not notice the red colored oil? For those who are unsure in general oil pans are on the bottom of the engine. Don't feel so bad I'm sure you are not the first and won't be the last.

 

Glad żou figured it out. It can be an honest mistake. It happened more than you think at places like Walmart (worked as a grease monkey there for a few years and saw a lot of stuff happen)
