Default Did oil pressure test.

Decided to do an oil pressure test to see how healthy the oil pump is, after all it is a '03. I did the cold numbers after the truck had sit for several hours, so it was not as cold like sitting overnight.
cold idle: 53
cold 2000: 56
Hot idle: 14
hot 2000: 48
how do these numbers look?
thanks

You're good to go.
Your numbers are fine.

Look very sim to mine. I may be a pound or two higher on cold idle but they might just be the gauge. I get as low as 12 or so on really hot idle. I just changed to 20w-50 though so I don't know what I get now. I'm sure it's higher though. I can hear it in the engine. Runs a lot more quiet.

Does anyone think that 20w-50 oil somehow makes a difference in someway for the disco engines?

My mechanic who's an independent Land Rover guy says they are recommended by Land Rover to use 20w-50. I don't see many guys on the forum running it. Seems like it would just lower your gas mileage. Im in NC so the climate doesn't get too extreme either way.

Is it just a safe oil in case something drastic happens?

20w-50 would do just fine.
It wont effect mpg enough to notice.
If I lived where it is warm/hot all year I would use it.
It even says in the owners manual that you can use it in hot climates, in South America they use a 20w-60 in alot of engines.

thanks for the replys! If I had let it sit overnight I think the cold numbers would have been a bit higher.

Nope... the oil pressure relief valve pops at about 50psi, so you are not going to get any higher pressure. It's the hot idle pressure you should be wary of, anything over 10 is what you are hoping for.
