Which diff fluid weight?
Reading myself in circles. I'm in NE Texas. No off-roading. Which should I choose? 75w-90, 80w-90, 75w-140?
My first time changing this myself, need guidance on weight and viz please.
Transfer case fluid also please.

Just went to Autozone this morning and checked the hand pump for $10+.00. Also, they checked for me what goes in the Landrover and mentioned 75w-90. They have Lucas synthetic for $14.00 the most expensive per quart size and Made in USA. But I am not sure what really is the difference between the ones you get from AB and those off the shelf stuff. Any ideas?
LR recommends 75W-90 GL5. I have been using that in my 04 without any issues and I do a little off-roading. Use whatever brand fluid you like and change it every 30k and you should be good to go.
Let me tell you about a hand pump. Bought the plastic one that screws onto the bottle and pumps 1oz per pump. I cursed more today changing the tranny fluid. Absolute piece of bleep!
First, I bought gallon jugs of ATF so it would not screw onto the large cap so it rested on top. Then the tube extender fell into the jug. Then the pump fell apart and into the jug- 3 times!!!! I had to empty the jug to fish out parts and made a mess.
All this with an engine running and me pumping. Made the biggest mess. Everything else was fine but that piece of junk pump. Then brother in law comes over and offers his industrial grade pump next time.

Thanks. Saw the link. I was just wondering since I have a pesticide sprayer here not used anymore. I remember when I removed the nozzle the liquid just poured out steadily. I will see if that can be modified to accommodate fluid instead and bend the metal shaft so I can pump the fluid in. Its very similar design to the fluid pump that cost near 200.00
IMO 75-90 is usual but if the diffs are worn or noisy 75-140 quietens them down.
As for transfer box, stick to the LR recomended oil, whatever that is. Personally I use synthetic all round but probably unnecessary it just saves buying and stocking many differing oil types for my D2 and RRS.
Many say this or that oil super dooper oil but in all honesty I use either Total, Elf or Fuchs oils and never had any problems as yet.

I buy the gear oil in bulk in 5 gallon buckets. I use a level pump like this. Its worlds easier than any other method.

Why did you have the engine running? RAVE and other manuals all say to change the ATF while the transmission is cold, then run the engine and gently cycle through the gears, then shut off the engine and top up.
