I have a 2000 Disco 2. I noticed spots on the grounds and wanted to figure out what was going on.
I got under it and found what smells like differential fluid all around the driver side wheel.
There is no leak near the pumpkin or the passenger side at all.
Is it a pinion seal that's blown or something else?
The first 2 photos are of the passenger side for comparison to the remaining photos from the drivers side, where you can see the moisture of the fluid. All inside the wheel you can see the dust and dirt that has caked up after adhering to the fluid
confirm with rovers north or whichever supplier that it is indeed for the front axle. it's a little unclear on the item listing, unless they're all the same.
Me, before l tore into it (replacing seal)...l'd remove vent tube from axle housing and blow through it with compressed air. 9 times out of 10 a plugged vent tube causes leakage of axle seals. Clean area afterwards, completely, and observe after a few days of driving. If leakage happens again...then...follow through with previous posters video, picture and part recommendation.
