Differential Lock Shifting
Oh, thanks again. Im not sure if Ive seen the other sticker or it was removed. I only have the sticker Friday Night is pointing. Alright, but now its clear.
Sorry guys, got this last few questions. So the shifter works. Does it always be in high and locked all the time? The sticker shows 0-60 but and if i move it to the middle the car wont move and im driving over that speed pass that 60 on high. Thank you
locked is for getting you through tough areas
So when its on high, its unlocked? On low its locked, is that correct. Sorry, I just dont have the manual on these trucks anymore and its for the 2004.
It can be either, Hi/Lo and Open/Locked are two separate functions. On the street, it should be in Hi (leaver back) and Unlocked (lever to the R). You can lock the diff by moving the lever to the L in either Hi or Lo. Although as others have said, it should stay open unless you're on gravel, snow, in the woods, etc. Locked on pavement will cause the TC to bind.
I know he titled the thread Differential Lock Shifting but if he's talking about an '03 he won't have the diff lock unless the truck has been upgraded.
Perhaps can post a picture of his transfer case shifter **** and the label behind it.

What does the shift **** look like?
As mln01 said, if yours is an '03 then you don't even have a central diff lock unless someone has added the necessary hardware to the diff, as well as inside the cabin.
If the hardware has been upgraded, the lever moves in a standard manual-transmission H pattern. The right side is unlocked and the left side is locked, and you can choose high or low range in either locked or unlocked mode.

Not going faster than 5mph in low has to be a farce. It means only switch between hi or low while going 0-5mph in neutral. The tranny still shifts into 1-2-3-4 gears in low. I was cruising at about 20-30 mph in low on easy stretches of trail. The bonus is that low range keeps the engine running MUCH cooler at low speeds.
The manual has good tips on how to edge into low or high. Easiest is moving of course, but you can also switch to reverse gear and hold for 2 seconds while stopped, switch back to neutral, then try the shift again.
The MODE button also works differently in high or low range. In high, it engages 'sport' mode, great for cruising around town in quick stop and go's. In low, it changes the tranny to manual!
