Differential lock stuck

What is the best way to unlock a stuck differential in a certian gear? I have a 1995 DISCO I.

How long has it been since it has been engaged?
If you can't gradually free it up without forcing it, you will need to pull the whole console and go thru the floor to free up and lube the shifter.
