Over Heating
Hey Everyone! I have a 96 Discovery with 100k miles and it had overheated yesterday. A ton of fluid a gushed out from the under the hood. There was so much steam that I didnt want open it up so I had let it sit for a few hours to let it cool down. When I had finally got around to check it where the problem wasI had noticed my expansion tank had a good size crack in it when the fluid must have came from.I have checked allthe hoses and they are in good condition. I sure that allI whould have to do is replace the tank but i'm wondering if that could be just a small part to a bigger problem! I've talked to some friends that have other thoughts like the water pump, radiator, heater core, and heater moter. Any thought or ideas and how I could check any of them myself before I get raped by the dealership! Thanks CWG
Do you have the old black tank, if so it was replaced years ago because they kept splitting. The new tank is a white clor.
Start by replacing that , filling and bleeding your coolant system and see what happens.

You do not need to go to the dealer.
Like Mike said, just replace your expansion tank, refill and then bleed the cooling system.

It would be a really good idea to flush the cooling system before you refill it.
