DII Throttle Body Heater Plate Kit
My Throttle Body Heater Plate Kit started to slightly leak on my DII, evidently the guys that did the head gasket job a few months ago forgot this gasket. I note that the gasket itself is about $2.95. The throttle body heater plate kit is about $30. It comes with the gasket, a new heater plate and three new screws and washers. Is there any reason to change the plate and screws or can I get buy with just changing the gasket? The money is not the issue and the same amount of work is required either way, I am just wondering what the need to change the plate and screws would be. Thanks in advance. Phil

You're darn right, it dipped down into the high 40s over the weekend. Although it felt like summer today. This is my DII that idles warm so I want to try to keep as much of the cooling system flowing as possible. I am noticing some Dexcool crud buildup around the edge of the throttle body gasket so I thought that i would change it out and keep the system sealed. Just in time for summer! Phil
This truck is becoming a ful-time hobby! I had a chance to get to the throttle body heater plate, gasket job last night. Easy to do, just takes a little bit of time. The hoses that connect to the TBH Plate didn't want to come loose, so I just trimmed them back, vise-gripped the loose end to stop coolant leakage and went from there. Getting to the three bolts under the plate is a tight job. Fiddling with those took the vast majority of the time. Once the old plate was off, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was virtually no coolant buildup, had a little corrosion on the aluminum but not much. The replacement gasket that came with the kit was substantially thicker than the old gasket. Someone has suggested taking the throttle body off and working on it that way. Probably not a bad idea. The few minutes required to remove the throttle body would be much less than working on the bottom TBH plate somewhat in the dark. Got it back together, checked for leaks and rebled the cooling system. Took a quick victory lap and heard that sloshing sound. Went out this morning, rebled again and it looks like I got all of the air out. No sloshing so far. No leaks, no sloshing. Thanks to this amazing site and all of the contributors! I could not and would not afford this truck without LR Forums.
On a side note, when I went out to Land Rover Miramar to buy the TBH Plate Kit, I was told that the dealership had only sold 5 new trucks in the month of February! Amazing. There was a local indy shop owner there picking up some parts. He has worked on my trucks over the years. He told me that they are starting to take on BMW work because the new Rovers are so maintenance free, unlike the Discoverys, Classics and Defenders. He is driving a LR3. He told me that he changes the oil and adds gas and that is about it.

There was a local indy shop owner there picking up some parts. He has worked on my trucks over the years. He told me that they are starting to take on BMW work because the new Rovers are so maintenance free, unlike the Discoverys, Classics and Defenders. He is driving a LR3.
