Default Disco 1 alarm system

Has anyone had issues with the alarm system? my remote will sometimes not operate the lock/unlock . I have two remotes, both with new batteries. Sometimes, it goes days without responding to the remote than it will work again. Another thing i notice is if i unlock the car and open the rear door first, that seems to mess it up for the next time. it works fine with the key in the lock, but finicky with the remote. any ideas? The remotes are clean inside.

A lot of people seem to have problems with these systems, I suggest you try the reset procedure and if that doesn't work either take it to the dealer and pay a lot for them to fix it or get an aftermarket one put in for a lot less.

I quit using my remotes a couple of years ago. I just use my key to manually lock and unlock my 97D1. My remotes never worked worth beans. They were more trouble than they were worth in trying to use them or reset them.

Today I locked my Disco with the key and noticed that the alarm actually set. The red light was blinking on the instrument cluster. When I came back I unlocked the doors with the key fob and when I opened the door the alarm went off. I had to lock and unlock the door with the key 3 times to get the alarm to turn off. If I lock the door with the key the alarm sets, if I lock with the key fob the alarm does not set.

That's the way it is designed (from what I read in the owner's manual). If you want to lock it with the key WITHOUT setting the alarm, you need to hold the key in down in the locked position for 5 seconds. Just locking the door WILL set the alarm.
