HELLO EVERYONE I CURRENTLY OWN A 95 DISCO AND HAVE BEEN THINKING OF UPDATEING TO A SERIES 2 BUT THE SERIES 1 HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT LAND ROVER SOMETIMES CHANGE ISN'T ALWAYS GOOD. I HAVE HEARD THE SERIES 1 IS A BETTER 4X4 THAN THE SERIES 2 IS THAT TRUE? AND WHY? I HAVE YET TO FIND A SITUATION I CANT GET OUT OF WITH THE SERIES 1. BUT THEN THERE IS THE 109 I HAVE AND IT IS LIKE A TRACTOR I BELIEVE IT IS NEARLY UNSTOPABLE I ONLY WISHED IT HAD MORE ENGINE POWER. ALL COMMENTS WILL BE APRECIATED. FREDERICH

 

I have to tell you, I have a 99 D2 and I will put out an open invitation to anyone with a D1 that thinks he can out climb me here in Colorado.
That being said, yes D2's have more electronics but they will hold their own and offer you more features.

 

I love my D1, but i wish I had around a 2000 so I could add a solenoid lock for the transfer case. Then basically the same truck with more goodies. Really an 04 is my dream Disco...

 

I love my 2000 DII. As far as 4X4 goes, like mike said, series II seems to be a bit better. At the same time it has alot of gizmos and gadgets that could fail making it more prone to break down, but usually if you take care of your truck it wont be an issue. This is usually my take, a d1 is a great truck and you can throw it around a little more than a DII, but the DII could outdo the DI anytime on a tough trail. Thats my input!

 

There seems to be a lot more rear overhang on a DII. Is that a factor on the trails?

 

Not if the truck is set up right, and if stock, yes, you can tear off the front or rear bumpers if you don't spot your line well.

 

Well to jump in on this one since I have both. Mike is correct about the Disco 1, my '95 will out do the '01 any day, when it comes to climbing around. It also has a softer ride than my '01 but it has 18" wheels on it, and the '95 has 16" with more tire. Now when it comes to towing my '01 does tow a trailer much better, seems to have a little more power,butit does have a littlebigger engine.It also doesn't wander as much with the trailer behind as the '95. Ultimately the decision is yours, but I like both of mine for separate reasons and uses.

 

If you want a d2 you should get an 04'.
