Default Disco 2.5 diesel swap

Hey,I've been reading about MB diesel engine swaps but how come nobody tried to convert gasoline engine to original 2.5 diesel land rover motor that is being used in Europe on Discovery 2.

Because it costs $10,000.

You need the TD5, which can only be bought oversea's.
You need the diesel transmission, again only bought oversea's.
Then you need the intercooler, exhaust, ECU's for the engine, transmission, body control unit and alarm unit.
You need heavy duty springs for the suspension.
Then you need to move the motor mounts and install everything.
And of course I am forgetting things that are needed.
$10k is alot of gas, even at $4/gal.
And I can tell you that you cant use a USPS Flatrate box for the engine and trans either, in other words, shipping is expensive.

If you have the money, the resources and the connections than anything is possible, but otherwise it may be best to stick with the American standard petroo engine. Although there are people on here who have swapped out the petrol for other manufradtured diesel engines.

It's mostly because the DII is becoming worth less and less $$, unlike the Defender. People do tons of TDi swaps in Defenders because it actually enhances their value usually, unlike ruining the value of a DII because you wouldn't be able to register it in a lot of places.

Still need all the fuel tank and lines. The only worthwhile diesel swaps are from the old 3.0 from around 95 into a disco one or defender. Otherwise its worthless.

And how much is a totalled DII going for in Poland?
How much is the currency exchange? Is the USD worth more or less than the whatever they use for money?
How do you ship 2 halves of a 5,000lbs truck?
To big to go on a pallet, cant roll it into a container.
Will US Customs allow it to pass that way?
How do you get it home from the port? FedEx?
Usually when you import a car after it clears customs a auto transport company brings it to your house on a car hauler.

Here 's the list of parts that I 've found
transfercase 200
manual trany 430
auto trany 850+150 for ecu
motor 1160+ ecu 200+harnes 100
motor mounts 30
intercooler 50
radiator 70
= $3240

I found disco 2 for sale for $3800 -6000 so if I could get wrecked one ,can't be more than $2500.In order to bring it to US the easyiest way is to cut in have , parts only.Shipping is between $600 -1000 in the container not fedex or ups.

Ok, you are on your way, so far you would be into it for approx. $4200.
Do they do inspections where you live?
If so it wont pass.
I'm not saying dont do it, what I am saying is many others have barked up this tree and few have succeeded and those who have always come in over budget.

You know, if you could just buy a running TD5 DII and have ti shipped here why not swap the VIN# and then just drive that and save yourself the work?

Because if you live anywhere that requires inspections with emissions testing it would STILL fail. At least that's how it works in PA. The VIN dictates whether the truck is gas or diesel, so the DOT knows what it should be.
