Disco 2 died
My 1999 discovery 2 fuel light came on and then within 5km started acting like was running empty. I put in 10ltrs and now it will start barely but not stay running. Is there an air lock? Was running good up to now. New plugs and wires just installed. Oil looks thin but leaks at a good rate so it's always fresh. Seemed to be smoking off the exhaust heavy ( more than normal , leak is from valve covers and is manageable. Haven't checked for gas in oil yet. Will do when towed back home. Any help would be great.

Fuel pump sucking air will ruin the fuel pump and turn it to rubbish.
Could be an air lock. I don't think the Bosch system on the D2 has a fuel return line back to the tank like a D1 does.
There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail.
Poke a screw driver in that to open it - outside in the rain maybe and have a rag on the ready to catch the gasoline which may be flying out.
That will purge out any air from the fuel rail.
