Disco 2 issues

Ryan, great news!
Longtallsalley, I’m definitely not an expert on this. My understanding is that the downstream O2 sensors look for a difference from the upstream sensors. If there’s a difference they’re happy. In the case of my Dakota I drove it for a few years with plugged Cats and they never threw a code. I was always disappointed with the power of the vehicle, but I assumed that it was normal for the 4.7. After I removed the Cats, I would get a fault from the downstream sensors once or twice a year, but it had way more power.

Thanks I picked it for $2500 day before yesterday wholesale dealer bought it from a local girl in town it was her dads for several years , he got scared after I pointed out the leak also needed bumpers the plastics broken on them and needs a crank oil seal and had a few scratches, interior is real nice, everything works but I bought it with the intention of doing a motor swap and raptor lining it , the car is super clean 121k miles I think original , some frame surface light surface rust .
someone has done the -bypass mods: air injection and the throttle body coolant bypass found yesterday during the tune up.has some 265/65/18 tires need replaced bad.
My question is do the 04s have the issues the earlier ones have?

Pluggage
Great news that it's running good again. A little TLC goes a long way on our Rovers.
An easy way to check for plugged cats is with a pressure gauge. Measure pressure at the upstream O2 port. My mechanic says if it is more than 2 or 3 psi, at low or high revs, then there is pluggage. Not sure if pluggage is a real word.
I noticed one day that the cats on my 94 had little patches welded. Turns out the ceramic got removed, so I don't worry about pluggage.

That thing looks like a good place to start! And that is how the Disco love for idiots like me and others around here start: buy one that looks great, but has all the issues from neglect over a number of years/owners.
You’ve got a long road to recovery for it, but once you learn all this stuff, it’s so cool to get one to a great place at a fraction of the cost of a newer machine. It has 80% of the luxury/capability/comfort as a newer machine, while at the same time retaining a nifty vintage look.
