Your expertise is needed! I just replaced the windshield in my 2001 Discovery 2. That enabled me to buy a rearview mirror for the first time. I got it off eBay but tried hard to get the original part. The fastener on the glass, however, could be inaccurate.
I have searched everywhere w/o luck. Maybe I'm the only one to ever have this issue? I can't find any info on the faster at all.
Here are images of the window fastener and the rearview mirror clamp / clasp. To my surprise, the mirror slips on to the window fastener pretty darn well. It even stays in place when handled gently. It does rattle around however and will come off easily. But there is really nothing keeping the mirror secured from the top or bottom, the clamps are on the left and right. What's confusing is there simply appears not to be any mechanism to tighten the mirror to the fastener/glass.
As you can see there is a torqx type screw directly behind the fastener clamp but as far as I can tell it is not adjustable.
I suspect I'm missing a part or something fundamental about how it operates. Thanks for your help!
Ryan Rear View Mirror - no ability to tighten ? Window fastener. Perhaps LR has a proprietary "wedge"? But nothing I can find through LR parts websites or google.
