Default Disco 2 starting problems

I disconnect and reconnect negative battery cable and then car starts, new battery, new crankshaft position sensor, tune up, and no error codes when read at auto zone. Sometimes car does not start, clicks and all dash lights up but does not turn over, so I disconnect negative cable and wala car starts.

2004 discovery II SE 76,000 miles I have owned and had land rover do all service but now just have car parked only drive 1 time per week , battery 1 month old.

Thanks in advance , I do not want another $1200.00 service bill, they see me coming.

Yes but something is wrong that needs real fixing.

I'm pretty sure it involves either the theft deterent system or the ignition system.

Anyone know what the actual problem is or have an idea of how to ind/solve it?

Thanks

Eric

I've had this problem a few times on my disco a while back. I bet that it's not the disconnecting the battery that is making it work again, but the fact that you are moving the terminal around and it's making the ground better and giving you a good connection. To test this: next time it doesn't start don't disconnect the cable, Just twist the connection of the negative terminal and trying to starting.

1) Do you have to use a wrench to remove the terminal or are you able to just twist it to disconnect it without any tools? The terminal should be so tight that you cant remove it without tools.

My bet is that you just need clean both the negative and positive posts on the battery and the terminals. Lynx/Battery post and terminal cleaner brush (00214) | Battery Terminal Brush Cleaner | AutoZone.com_
If the terminals are bad enough you might want to just look into replacing them.

The terminals are clean and properly connected.

Sometimes when we push the unlock button on the fob the light on the fender and the left rear amber light turn on, the doors don't always unlock and the truck behaves just like in the other posts.

I'm pretty sure the security system is the issue, disconnecting the battery seems to reset the computer but shortly thereafter the same problem occurs.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Erc
