Default Disco 2 wont move

I recently bought a 2003 Disco 2. Wires was the first to change, then of course the oil gear. I'm not in the serial range but I'm guessing most of that year have the problem. I had been driving around with a bad catalytic and double footing to stay running.. I finallly figured out it was the idle air, cleaned it and was running like a champ. I previously also changed the front differential fluid, slowy making it to the rest. I was online and amazon decided i wanted an oil filter the other day so i ordered. So i tried to change the filter and fluid last week. Figured out they sent me the wrong filter, put the old one back on real quick with new fluid. I tried to start it and the m and s lights were flashing. Tried to read codes had none. read about the xyz switch. took that off there was a spot that looked like it may have shorted, cleaned but didnt help. I hink a little tranny fluid squirted on it , i was in a hurry and did a poor job putting the sump back on. Finally a couple days later I figured out I had to clear it anyways, and the lights stopped flashing. cleared the code, had to play with it put it would start at a spot slightly above neutral. I still cant seem to adjust it right and i cant get it to move. Ocassiionly when attempting to to it will the rpms will sound like its attempting to go but doesnt. i also visually checked fuses but didnt see anything wrong,, would a tranny filter not on correctly do this? any help appreciated

Andrew, welcome to the forum. There are several here who go well out of their way to help all well-intentioned forum members. Much better than any automotive forum I have ever happened to be part of.

But dude, ya gotta give us more to work with. Like Xrad said, it's not clear what you did. Please take a deep breath and try again to describe what you have done. We want to help.

Oil filter? Or transmission fluid filter? Presuming you're talking about the transmission, did your carefully follow the procedure to refill the transmission fluid? The procedure is different on a DII compared to many other vehicles.

Huh? How would tranny fluid squirt on the XYZ switch? And what if it did?

Huh? What does this have to do with anything you're talking about here?

No. Not the tranny filter by itself. Unless perhaps it was not installed correctly.

I pulled the auto gearbox filter, but had to put it back on , due to being sent the wrong one.
The xyz switch is right on the side of the sump, and it just so happened I didnt have time to torque correctly, and i think some fluid shorted the xyz switch.

Im unsure if its two seperate problems or combined. Right now i can start it, but i have to move my drive lever right above neutral, I can move through all the positions, and it will say them on the dash , but i dont believe it goes into gear at all. . Ocassionally when shifting rpm wise it will sound like it goes into drive but no movement whatsoever.

Could you have drained the battery? That can cause the M+S flash.

Did you follow the correct procedure for refilling the autobox, topping it up with the engine running? If you didn't, your fluid is low and you probably won't go anywhere.
